Titanium Medical Parts — Fine Machining of a Difficult Material

    Challenge

    Titanium traps heat and wears tooling — a classically difficult material. Medical parts add fine geometry, near-mirror surface quality, and inspection to near-full-inspection standards. Holding that quality in high-mix, low-volume production was the challenge.

    Approach

    Swiss-type lathes and machining centers are chosen per geometry, with titanium cutting parameters standardized per part number. Over 60 machines — including CMM inspection — back conformance to drawing tolerances with inspection reports.

  3. 03

    Outcome

    Ongoing orders in the medical field. The same setup handles semiconductor-equipment parts (316L, Kovar) and precision automotive parts — inquiries welcome from a single prototype.
